Sharon O'Kane Schmeltzer

My art journey began with a fascination for basic drawing exercises. It grew into a fascination of painting using the media of oil. This fascination with art has never left me but developed into a means for expressing some self-exploration. As I became experienced applying design principles and painting techniques I became more confident in communicating through painting. Then I began to find satisfaction and challenges in the genres of abstraction, non-objective, and surrealism. Eventually other media were explored, keeping this journey of art a new and ever changing endeavor, always providing changing challenges.

I entered my formal art education at the university level. Following that, I taught public school students at all levels ranging from pre-school to retired seniors and all ages in between. Along with teaching art I continued to develop my personal exploration mainly in painting. Throughout the years I have participated in art fairs, solo and group shows, and galleries continues to this day along with courses and workshops.

Art has always been an integral part of my life bringing very special meaning to it.
