Black Piano Blues

Artist’s Statement -
Black Piano Blues
The poet’s words transported me to grade school age, to memories long buried. My mother who painted signs or my father who sold sheet music probably traded a local piano teacher for my lessons. The piano teacher wanted me to see my hands as butterflies. I preferred a walk in the fields beyond our house. I didn’t practice enough. I remained the only member of the family without a personal relationship with an instrument. So, I picked up a paint brush and filled its thirsty bristles with color!
