Martin Achatz, Poet Laureate - Martin grew up in Ishpeming, Michigan.  He attended Northern Michigan University, where he received a BA in English, with a minor in Math and Computer Science.  He also holds a Master’s Degree in Fiction and an MFA in Poetry from NMU.  He has taught at Western Michigan University and is currently a Contingent Professor in the English Department at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan, where he has served as Poetry Editor of Passages North.  Martin Achatz’s work has appeared in Kennesaw Review, The Paterson Literary Review, The MacGuffin, and Dunes Review, among others. His collection of poems, The Mysteries of the Rosary, was published by Mayapple Press. He has twice been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and he was awarded third place in the William J. Shaw Memorial Prize for Poetry.  Martin's latest work was just published in Undocumented:  Great Lakes Poets Laureate on Social Justice from MSU Press.  Martin served as the 2017-1018 Poet Laureate of the Upper Peninsula, and he was just re-elected for another two year term (2019-2020).  Martin lives in Ishpeming with his wife and two children.  In his spare time, he enjoys searching for Sasquatch with his nine-year-old son.
