Dr. Beverly Matherne’s sixth bilingual book, Bayou des Acadiens / Blind River, a collection of short stories and prose poems, is from Éditions Perce-Neige (2015). She has done over 300 readings across the U.P., the U.S., Canada, and France, and in Wales, Belgium, Germany, and Spain. Special campuses and venues where she has read include Cornell University, Tulane University, the Dylan Thomas Centre in Wales, Shakespeare and Company in Paris, and the United Nations in New York. She is one of eight authors, including Samuel Beckett and Vladimir Nabokov, whose bilingual writing process is the subject of a completed doctoral dissertation from the University of Paris III. Widely published, her award winning poem “Pink Geraniums,” is forthcoming in Universal Oneness: An Anthology of Magnum Opus Poems from Around the World (360 poems from 360 poets from 60 countries), from Authorspress, New Dehli, India (2019). She has received seven first-place prizes, including the Hackney Literary Award for Poetry, and four Pushcart nominations. Professor Emerita at Northern Michigan University, Dr. Matherne served the Department of English as director of the Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing, director of the Visiting Writers Series, and poetry editor of Passages North literary magazine. She holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in English from University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Ph.D. in Drama from Saint Louis University.
